If the IRS Contacts You by Phone, it’s a SCAM!

AREA HOUSEHOLDS HAVE RECENTLY RECEIVED FRAUDULENTspam-alert-anim telephone calls impersonating the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).  An automated voice tells the recipient that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against them and asks that they call an 800 number for more information.

THIS IS A SCAM, run by thieves trying to get personal/financial information and/or money from you.  As a rule, the IRS will NEVER initiate contact with you by phone or e-mail.  The IRS only initiates contact by postal mail or rarely, a physical visit by agents.  Any phone calls or e-mails purporting to be from the IRS are false.

If you receive such a call or e-mail, DO NOT respond to the call-back number, click on any links, give out any personal/financial information, or send any money.
