HAWLEY SELECT BOARD ORDERS
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19) TOWN ELECTION MOVED TO MON. JUNE 1ST /
ABSENTEE BALLOTS
We are trying to reduce the spread of COVID-19 by delaying the election a month, as allowed by law. Even with this delay, voters are strongly encouraged to vote by absentee ballot to reduce contacts at Town Hall; (an application & instructions to get your absentee ballot is enclosed).
ANNUAL TOWN MEETING MOVED TO MON. JUNE 8TH
Depending on how prevalent COVID-19 is at the time, the Annual Town Meeting may be held outdoors with social distancing precautions; namely people standing six feet apart.
TOWN HALL ACCESS RESTRICTED / REMOTE MEETINGS
In line with Select Board Chairman Hussain Hamdan’s Emergency Order, which was ratified by the Board on March 31ST, the Town Office is currently generally closed to the public during staff hours. Committees and Boards individually have the option to continue to meet physically or to hold meetings by remote means, like conference calls, which many are. We are working on ways to include the public and allow them to listen remotely to these calls. This will likely involve a phone number you can call into and an access code to dial, which will be featured on the posted agendas.
As to physical meetings, Committee and Board Chairs have discretion about whether the public will be allowed to attend in person; if so, social distancing guidelines will be in place; if not, other ways to allow the public to listen/participate will be made available.
The situation is evolving; please look on the Town Website (www.townofhawley.com or on the Town Office bulletin board for information about meetings and how they will be handled.
Members of the public may always provide questions and comments before a meeting by contacting Town Hall or a Board/Committee member. Also, recordings of meetings held via non-conventional means will be on the Town Website or a CD can be requested from Town Hall.
VOLUNTEERS HELPING RESIDENTS—SCHOOL FOOD PROGRAM
A number of people have volunteered to pick up groceries or supplies for residents who are elderly or have health conditions which make it risky for them to go out. If you need this kind of help, please contact Town Hall. Additionally, the Hawlemont School offers bagged breakfast and lunch to anyone 18 years old or younger Monday thru Friday from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the School.
