Charlie and his spouse, Cynthia, lived in Hawley on West Hawley Road for many years, moving to their current address — 29 Potter Road, Rowe — two years ago. During his time in Hawley, Charlie performed numerous roles and served on many committees for the Town, including:
♦ School Committee: 1997 – 2014;
♦ Treasurer: 1997 – 2014;
♦ Tax Collector: 1999 to 2014;
♦ Tax Title Custodian: 2012 – 2014;
♦ Board of Appeals: 2002 – 2013; and,
♦ Finance Committee 2007 – 2012.
In the spring of 2015, The Hawley Board of Selectmen honored and thanked Charlie for his many years of service in a dedication to the 2014 Annual Town Report. In addition to the service items listed above, the dedication said that “Charlie regularly negotiated vocational bussing contracts to keep transportation manageable … as well as much of the paperwork and projects associated with the recovery effort after the 2008 Ice Storm” and Tropical Storm Irene.
The dedication concluded, “Thank you, Charlie, for all your years of devoted service!”
